Will the Patriots or the Rams take home the Lombardi Trophy? The MMQB staff makes their predictions for the winner, score and MVP.
You’ve followed along all season. Now we’re bringing it to you individually. The Bucs Nation staff will be giving you a series of bold predictions for the game one by one, day by day as we head into Super Bowl LV between the Buccaneers and the Chiefs where we sum it all up for you and give you the chance to vote for your favorite bold prediction the morning of the big game.
When the Buccaneers brought Tom Brady to Tampa last March, there was a lot of “all in” talk, pointing to the idea that the team was throwing everything into getting to the playoffs and competing for its second-ever Lombardi Trophy this season. Well, it’s safe to say that things have worked out pretty well to this point.
This coming Sunday, the Bucs will become the first team in NFL history to play in the Super Bowl in its home stadium. But of course, getting to Super Bowl LV can’t be enough. If you’re one of the last two teams standing, you might as well finish the job and win the whole thing, right?
But what’s it going to take for Tampa Bay to upset the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs? It may very well take a performance from Brady unlike any other he has put together in his previous nine Super Bowl appearances. Therein lies my bold prediction.
Now, Brady’s career-high for passing yards in a Super Bowl is 505, which he put up in a losing effort back in Super Bowl LII. In Super Bowl XLIX, he put up a career-high for passing touchdowns in a championship game with four. I’m not calling for him to hit either of those marks, though. I’m predicting that he’ll do something he’s never done in a Super Bowl: Brady will throw for 350-plus yards and three-plus touchdowns without turning the ball over. And if he can do that, the Bucs will be in a great position to win the game.
Brady has thrown for 350 or more yards and three or more touchdowns in two of his nine Super Bowl appearances, but in both games, he turned the ball over once. What better time for a first-time-ever performance than a Super Bowl in your home stadium that you’re playing at the age of 43?
Bold Super Bowl Predictions 2019
The Bucs have remarkably gotten through the first three rounds of the playoffs and into the Super Bowl without Brady being at his absolute best. Of course, he hasn’t been bad at all and has done enough to complement a hot defense. But coming up against a team like the Chiefs this Sunday means Tampa Bay will need Brady to outduel Patrick Mahomes. And a 350/3/0 line could do the trick.
Ever since the Chiefs were set as the Bucs’ opponents, I’ve been set on predicting back-to-back Super Bowl victories for Kansas City. But we’re supposed to be going bold here, aren’t we? To match my bold prediction for Brady, I’ll keep it bold and send some positive vibes out there with my score prediction. With such a strong night from Tom Brady, the Bucs may just go and do it, completing a dream season with an upset.
Score Prediction: Buccaneers 38, Chiefs 34
